Super Mario Bros | The Game Brought To Life

April 30, 2023

The Super Mario Bros movie is a lively, fun, and cute game to screen adaptation, but where it falters is the conventional story making of Hollywood. This isn’t a bad thing as the movie is very true to the game, but falters in an engaging and thoughtful story.

I don’t think that this element hurts the film at all because it is still very enjoyable and fun to watch. The animation is beautiful and eye catching, and the characters are funny and incredibly cute. There are so many worlds and characters within the Mario and Nintendo universe that it almost seems as though we are flying through them all. I wish we could’ve spent some more time in some of the places.

I am very excited to see what they do going forward since they do have so much good material to work with. Super Mario has set up a good base with their main characters and base characters. Seeing princess peach on the screen was so much fun as she’s my favorite character to play in the games.

The Donkey Kong scene where they build their carts was so much fun. I wish we could’ve seen the actual building and each character truly selecting their parts just like the game but it was still fun nonetheless. And the Mario fart sequence was to die for, it felt like we were actually driving along rainbow road.

When bowser sings peaches I was cackling and it was a hilarious highlight from the movie. While Super Mario Bros lacks the cohesive story it needs, it’s still a great time at the movies and true to the game material. That’s all we can ask for and why it’s such a big success right now. Everyone’s able to access and enjoy Super Mario Bros and it’s such a fun time at the movies for the whole family.

I give Super Mario Bros a B
